Toxic Toys Unpacked

Toxic Toys were the parenting story in 2007, reaching a crescendo just before Christmas. In its current issue, Environmental Health Perspectives offers an excellent overview of the issue, particularly with respect to lead and pthalates, and offers a regulatory update.

Now, the St. Petersburg Times is reporting even our pets may face peril from lead in their toys, and no one is regulating Fido's shopping cart.

We live in a sea of industrial chemicals - some 100,000 of them - most of which have never been tested for toxicity. Adults and children in the U.S. have hundreds of these chemicals coursing through our bloodstream at any given moment. Many of them are harmless (our bodies can flush them out quickly), but others stay in our blood or body fat for decades. New research is coming out all the time on how these chemicals may affect our endocrine systems, reproductive health, mental acuity and even our behavior and emotions.

Rather than just be alarming, it is ToxicSkinny's aim to empower consumers to make choices to protect themselves and their families.
